Smith-Gilbert Gardens is one of North Georgia’s botanical gems. A true collector’s garden with more than 3,000 species of plants on 16 acres, it is also simply a beautiful garden offering an ideal venue for your memorable event. The Gardens has excellent contemporary outdoor sculptures, with more than 30 featured throughout the property. History buffs will especially enjoy the Hiram Butler House, listen on the National Register of Historic Places. This tranquil escape is located in a beautiful mountain setting in historic Kennesaw, Georgia.
Staff Members work hard to provide a cleaned well-maintained area for event. Renting parties must leave any rental spaces as they find it. Any damage to the facilities caused by the Client or the Client’s guests at the Event shall be the responsibility of the Client.
The appearance of the grounds at Smith-Gilbert Gardens changes continually. Smith-Gilbert Gardens cannot guarantee that the Garden will have the same appearance at the event as when originally viewed by Client.
A Refundable Damage Deposit of $500 along with 50% of the Rental fee is required to secure an event date. The final balance is due, in full, 30 days prior to the event.
Guests receive complimentary admission to the gardens and are free to explore the surrounding areas before or after the event. Children under the age of 17 must be supervised by parents or adults at all times while on premises of the Garden.
Due to the limited parking on the property, Valet parking arrangements are required for events of 75 or more vehicles. Parties that exceed 75 vehicles will need to arrange for valet parking. Please see our preferred vendor list for valet options.
There is only one restroom (handicap accessible) available at the Garden during the Event. The Garden can arrange for the provision of portable restrooms at the expense of the Client. Portable restrooms are required for event exceeding 100 guests.
The client is allotted an amount of time for usage of the location and changing area. These areas must be vacated by the end of the rental period.
A rehearsal may be scheduled prior to your ceremony during the Gardens open hours, which are Tuesday – Saturday from 9am – 4pm. We allot one hour for rehearsal times, and there is no extra charge. Please note that we do not set out chairs or provide electrical cords for rehearsals. Smith-Gilbert Garden’s staff will not be present for your rehearsal.
Due to the delicate nature of our facility, we ask that you help us preserve our Garden for the next guests and our community. Wire, nails, staples, push-pins, tape and floral attachments are not permitted on any structures, man-made or natural, in the Garden. Items may not be staked into the turf including shepherd’s hooks. Freestanding decorations are welcome.
At wedding receptions, guests will be allowed to blow bubbles or throw lavender at a bridal couple. Birdseed, wildflower seed, sparklers, fireworks, rice, confetti, potpourri, party string, glitter, and floating decorations such as helium balloons are not allowed in the Garden. Real rose petals are acceptable, but must be removed prior to the end of the rented time frame or the client will incur the cost of cleanup.
For everyone’s safety, candle usage is subject to Garden approval and must conform to current Fire Code Requirements. Sterno warmers are acceptable for use in designated areas as long as they are supervised. Two are available for rent at $50.00 each.
Equipment Included in Rental
- A maximum of 100 white resin padded garden chairs are available
- 12 – 60” round tables
- 12 – 8’ banquet tables
Smith-Gilbert Gardens will not refund money due to inclement weather. Smith-Gilbert Gardens strongly recommends rental tents as we are unable to accommodate a party over 50 indoors. All tents will be scheduled through Smith-Gilbert Gardens. The cost of the tent will be the responsibility of the Client. All tents exceeding 700 square feet must be reviewed and approved by the Cobb County Fire Marshal’s office and thus must be arranged at least 2 months in advance.
Bridal Touch Up Room
A complimentary room is provided upon booking. The room is available throughout the time of your rental and includes a full-length mirror, kitchen, and bathroom. The room must be cleaned up after use. A room is not set aside for the groom, but they are welcome to utilize the public restrooms and the porch of the Hiram Butler House to gather.
Pets are not allowed in Smith-Gilbert Gardens at any time, except for service animals. If an animal would like to be part of the ceremony only, please inquire with Event Manager to discuss in more detail.
Live or pre-recorded music is welcome, but we do have a limited number of outlets as well as voltage. I would recommend communicating with your music vendor the need for a power strip and extension cords.
Each event rental comes with a complimentary photography session, which can be scheduled after normal operation hours. This is equivalent to a free venue usage fee and does not include the photographer. Please make arrangements with the Event Manager.
Ceremony / Reception Locations
Smith-Gilbert Gardens does not offer indoor venue accommodations. We apologize for the inconvenience. All locations in the garden are included in your rental fee. Thus, you can decide your ceremony and reception location from anywhere on the property. Below are the 2 popular locations for most brides, but we would be willing to accommodate other ceremony locations.
Rose Garden – by far the Most Popular location in the Gardens. This is where 90% of brides get married. The space can accommodate up to 200, but is the perfect setting for any number. The rose garden offers a breathtaking background to a ceremony as well as a naturally elevated stage for bride and groom.
Perennial Garden – This is a perfect area for a smaller wedding of up to 60 guests. It captures the beauty of the perennial bed, which is in bloom from spring to fall. This area also includes the splendor of the Hiram Butler House, which makes a beautiful backdrop or centerpiece of any ceremony.
Smith-Gilbert Gardens will setup/tear down any items provided by the garden including chairs. Renting parties must designate someone to setup and take down any additional items.
Please contact us if you are looking for more information. Event Tours will not be given upon arrival and must be scheduled through the Event Manager. If you would like to take a tour with an Event Coordinator, please email us to schedule a time.
We are open to the public Tuesday – Saturday for general admission and you are more than welcome to take a self-guided tour of the property.
