A Healthier You

Often the hustle and bustle of our lives take over the priorities of our health and wellness. One of the best ways to connect back to our wellness is through nature. This approach to health was greatly seen during the pandemic as people all over the world sought comfort in the outdoors. In the months of September and October, Smith-Gilbert Gardens focuses on a variety of different ways to let nature be a healing presence. Yoga, art workshops, nature walks, and gardening are just some of the ways A Healthier You provides a time of restoration with the outdoors.

Forest Bathing

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 14
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 23
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14

One of the most powerful ways to lower anxiety, improve mood, and boost the immune system, numerous studies show, is to walk in nature — specifically, walk slowly in nature, or forest-bathe.

Forest-bathing is an emerging aspect of wellness. It encourages us to utilize our senses of touch, taste, smell, sight, and feel to absorb the tangible and imperceptible benefits of being in the natural world. The idea came from Japan, where forest-bathing, or shinrin-yoku, has been practiced since the 1980s as part of a national health program. Slow down, awaken your senses, connect with nature as you experience a forest bathing walk, while creating “A Healthier You” at Smith-Gilbert Gardens. Sessions start 10:00-11:00 AM.
