Art Blooms

Art Blooms is an outdoor sculpture exhibit featuring artists from Metro Atlanta alongside Smith-Gilbert Gardens' permanent collection. Enjoy viewing art among spring blooms, including 25,000 daffodils!

Artist demonstrations/workshops will be available on Saturdays. (Some will require registrations.)

  • Bob Gilbert and Richard Smith supported the arts and collected artwork from around the U.S.- many of these can be seen today.
  • The first Art Blooms in 2021 began with KSU’s Master Craftsman program.
  • In 2022 GA Council for the Arts awarded a project grant to SGG for Art Blooms! More support means more artists!
  • Joining our artist demonstrations, KSU’s Theatre and Performance Studies department will perform an original immersive play created just for SGG

Art Hatch

SATURDAY, MARCH 23 
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Saturday, March 23, kicks off new art installations by Cobb County High Schools in the Gardens for Art Blooms. Explore the Gardens and find specially painted large wooden eggs for clues in a scavenger hunt. Stop at the activity booths to play games, create some art, and listen to music between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM! After March 23, more installations by KSU’s Master Craftsman program, Fabric and Textiles and performances by the Theatre department can be enjoyed through May 31. Bring your baskets and wear your spring best (butterfly wings, floral colors, and hats) to collect goodies around the Gardens.

Tickets are $10 for adults and children. Members get a discount.

sNEAK pEEK ksu'S OPPOSUM AND THE SEASON STONE

FRIDAY, MARCH 29
10:30 - 11:30 AM

Get a glimpse of KSU’s new immersive theatre experience with a sneak peek of Opossum and the Season Stone. Children and families will participate in the first few scenes of the production and provide feedback for the final production. Special ticket pricing for children and adults at $5 each for the show.

Creative Photography Workshops

SATURDAY, APRIL 6
10:30 AM - 1:00 PM 

Instructor David Batley teaches beginner and experienced photographers different ways they can use special features on their digital camera to make their experience better. This workshop is for ages 15 and up.

Opossum and the season stone

SATURDAY, APRIL 13

KSU Theatre and Performance Studies Department presents Opossum and the Season Stone, a theatre for young audiences, immersive theatre experience. Children and families interact during the performance while they learn about nature. 

Special Ticket pricing of $5 for adults and $5 for children.

Dewey Decibelles

SATURDAY, APRIL 13
12:00 - 1:00 PM

Bring a picnic and stay after the KSU performance for music by the Dewey Decibelles. With a combination of hammered dulcimer, fiddle, vocals and guitar, families will be delighted with music for young audiences. A partnership with North Cobb Library. Library staff will also be on site to issue library cards and check out books on site!


KSU's Fabric and Textile Department Presents "perspectives" a fashion show and art exhibit

The Fabric and Textiles Department at KSU presents an art exhibit and fashion show inspired by the Gardens in the Art Blooms theme, Perspectives. Included with Garden Admission.

Adult Acrylic Painting Workshop

SATURDAY, APRIL 20
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM AND 1:00 - 3:00 PM

Learn how to mix and layer acrylic paints to create a landscape with depth and richness. There will be a demo along with individual instruction. All materials, including canvas and acrylic paints, will be included with the workshop. Acrylics stain clothing so dress appropriately! Take one or both sessions as each workshop will be different.

Perspectives KSU Master craftsman sculpture exhibit

SATURDAY, MAY 4

Sculptures created by KSU Master Craftsman students will debut for Art Blooms. Walk through the Gardens to see how students incorporated the theme of Perspectives and nature into their work.

Watch artists Sheena Dickerson and Lorraine Kimsey demonstrate how they capture the beauty of the Gardens on canvas. En plein air, a French term meaning, in the open air, is a practice used by many artists to show movement, natural light and the essence of a landscape.
