This is a White Mulberry. They were imported to support an ultimately failed silkworm industry. Some seeds spread into the wild and trees have naturalized. This tree was discovered on the 4th of July when a ball was hit into the then-overgrown woods. Although this tree didn’t survive, the Gardens are proud to display its sculptural form as a reminder of the fabric and textile industry in GA. See a wonderful textile and fabric show, including a fashion show inspired by the Gardens on April 20! Presented by KSU’s Fabric and Textile Department.
