More than 40 years ago, Dr. Bob Gilbert and Richard Smith began Smith-Gilbert Gardens as an oasis in the suburbs of Metro Atlanta. Today, the City of Kennesaw acts as a doting steward of a collection which includes thousands of plants, over 30 pieces of art, and a beautiful historic home.
As our mission states, Smith-Gilbert Gardens aims to serve as a resource for conservation, education and the enjoyment of horticulture, fine arts and historic preservation. Thanks to the support of our community, volunteers, and generous donors, we continue our work to foster our mission and grow alongside our community. In 2024, over 3,600 children visited our garden, participating in programs largely funded by our donors. With nearly 14,000 total visitors in 2024, the garden is ever growing. We could never have accomplished so much alone!

Volunteer
We always have a need for volunteers to support our work. Opportunities include garden maintenance, butterfly house ambassador, assist with special events, lead school field trip and adult group tours, and community volunteer days.
